EDEN 1998 Annual Conference
Keynote addresses - Introduction
The seventh EDEN Annual Conference was held at the magnificent venue of the University of Bologna 24-26 June 1998, celebrating the 10th anniversary of signing the European Magna Charta of Universities in Bologna. Organised in co-operation with ICDE, Associazione Campo and the Bologna University, under the patronage of the European Commission, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, CRE, the Confederation of European Union Rectors' Conferences and the Italian Ministry of University and Technological and Scientific Research, it was part of the thematic preparation for the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in the Twenty-forst Century - Vision and Action, to be held in Paris in October 1998.
The conference theme was: Universities in a Digital Era: Transformation, Innovation and Tradition - Roles and Perspectives of Open and Distance Learning. The Programme Committee was chaired by Professor Kenneth Edwards, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, UK. The conference proceedings include about 140 papers and are available in two volumes from the EDEN Secretariat.
None of the three keynote addresses are, however, available in the proceedings. EURODL is pleased to present two of them, and hope to add the third one soon.
